Raw Growth

On a journey: Adventures through physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual growth; through intentional food choice, reading, gardening, yoga & meditation, my furry little cat-children, fibercrafts, and random strokes of insight; with the goal of health, joy, and radiance of being.

Why "Raw Growth"?

There are several reasons for this name:

-There's raw as in the "raw food" movement. As you may notice from blogs followed, this is an interest of mine. I've spent a few years reading everything I can find on nutrition. Everything I've found - that has any rigorous scientific backing, that is - supports the idea that the healthiest diet for humans is rich in whole plant foods, especially raw fruits, veggies, and greens. The less "processing" the better! Exactly what percentage is raw, whether you include any animal products, etc., is up for some debate and I think may vary from person to person. (I have my opinions, but they may not work for everyone.) A "raw food diet" can be done in a very nutritionally unsound way, just as a vegetarian diet or standard American diet (SAD) can be. Personally, I have found integrating more raw fruits, veggies, and greens into my diet has helped dramatically with some of my many chronic ailments, such as allergies, fatigue, headaches, soreness, joint pain, and indigestion. Further, my lifelong struggle with lack of energy and depression has benefited incredibly from this change in my diet.

-Change is inevitable. Whether we try to move with that change and grow is up to us. We can enjoy the change and grow, or we can resist it and suffer. Growth is part of life. And sometimes growth can leave us feeling pretty raw.

-I believe true healing includes tapping into our deeper selves. This will turn up some really "raw" (unrefined, primal) emotions and impulses. Rather than fear these, I believe we must learn to make them part of us, to let them motivate us when it helps our greater good, and to tame them and refine them when refinement is necessary.
